In order to facilitate a future solar hot water heater, we have built a plumbing chase from the roof down to the crawl space. The plumbers originally put the flexible pvc pipe to service a solar unit, but then realized, just in time, that the water can reach temperatures of 300 degrees, which would melt the plastic and explode within the walls. Copper, insulated, replaced the plastic (took about 6 hours of labour to do it.) Being green is so expensive, unless you’re a frog.
